植物細胞壁は、細胞の形や大きさの決定、細胞間の接着、細胞の分化や成長の制御、生物・環境ストレス耐性の促進など、多くの機能を持っています。このバーチャルイシューでは、JPRに発表された植物の成長および環境応答における細胞壁の生理的機能を扱った論文を4つのカテゴリーに分けて紹介します。(1)胚発生と種子発達、(2)栄養成長、(3)生殖成長、(4)環境応答。このバーチャルイシューで紹介する16の研究論文により、多くの方々が細胞壁の多様な役割に興味を持っていただけることを期待しております。
